Overview
First Impressions
When I first stepped off the boat at St Francis Resort, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a three-star property on a private island. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in understated packages. This place sits right on Stocking Island, just a short water taxi ride from Georgetown, and there’s something genuinely peaceful about being surrounded by nothing but turquoise water and white sand beaches.
The Island Setting
Here’s the thing about staying on Stocking Island — you’re literally on your own little slice of paradise, but Georgetown is close enough that you don’t feel completely cut off from civilization. The resort’s location is actually its biggest selling point, and I can see why couples rate it so highly (apparently 9.0 out of 10, which makes total sense). You’ve got this pristine beach practically to yourself, and the snorkeling right off the shore is surprisingly good. I mean, you don’t need to book expensive excursions when the coral reef is basically at your doorstep.
Accommodations
The room I stayed in was simple but comfortable — think beach cottage vibes rather than resort glamour. The air conditioning worked well (crucial in the Bahamas), and honestly, you’re spending most of your time outside anyway. What I appreciated was how clean everything was and the fact that my balcony had an unobstructed ocean view. The furnishings are a bit dated, sure, but they’re well-maintained, and there’s something charming about the slightly weathered tropical aesthetic.
Dining Experience
Breakfast here is actually pretty solid — they do both continental and buffet style, which gives you options depending on your mood. The restaurant overlooks the water, so even if you’re just having coffee and pastries, the setting makes it feel special. I found the local fish dishes at dinner to be the standout, though I’d recommend asking what was caught that day rather than sticking to the standard menu items. The staff really knows their stuff when it comes to the fresh catches.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a place where you’ll find a fancy spa or elaborate amenities, but that’s sort of the point. Recent guests consistently rate the location at 9.2, and after spending a few days here, I totally get it. You’re paying for the experience of having a beautiful Bahamian beach mostly to yourself, with Georgetown’s shops and restaurants just a quick boat ride away when you want a change of pace. The water taxi service runs regularly, and the staff can arrange it whenever you need it. For couples especially, there’s something really romantic about watching the sunset from your own private island — even if you’re sharing it with a handful of other guests. It’s that perfect balance of seclusion and accessibility that makes St Francis Resort work so well.
Nassau hotels keep snorkelers close to coral nurseries, straw markets, and sunset catamaran docks.

Guest Reviews
the location is beyond perfect.
the bungalow is on a super beautiful Long Beach which is basically empty.
long walks and the magical blues are endless :)
Loved the houseboats (although bed was small), surroundings, kayaking to Chat ‘N Chill and the Coconut Club, daytrip was beautiful, staff was very welcoming
The location can’t be beat - waking up to the crashing Ocean waves - turquoise water and pristine white sand - feeling like we have the beach to ourselves.. on the other side the marina and easy access to kayaks to explore creeks, a snorkeling hole and a beach with sting rays. Marie with guest services helped us find the perfect full day tour replete with sharks, iguanas, snorkeling and a gorgeous sand bank, and set us up with a rental car for a day on the mainland to explore little Exuma and the Tropic of Cancer beach. All meals were delicious and fresh - lobster, snapper, mahi mahi, and plenty of great options for kids too and fresh fruit and vegetables. It was amazing!!
Great location. Easy to get around to all parts of the island, beaches and things to do via boat service offered.
Staff are amazing! Food was delicious and great value. Perfect place to unwind and connect with nature and the beauty of the Exumas.
The unique location and the friendliness of the staff.
The view, the location
We rented one of their houseboats and it was very nice - roomy for 2, great air conditioning, very comfortable bed and over all a nice change to the typical "hotel" room. We just wanted a quick 4 night getaway and this "rustic" resort fit the need perfectly... What is missing in amenities it makes up for in staff!! Both Annice and Sterling were amazing hosts as they served most of the meals, showed us around, told us about the area, made our drinks, prepared our boat for our stay -- basically they did it all! Both staff members were amazingly friendly and ready to go above and beyond to make sure your stay was enjoyable. I know there were others also, like the chef came out the first night and introduced her self and checked on our thoughts of her meal but for the most part almost all interaction during our stay was with Annice and Sterling - A++
Loved the location! Loved the staff! (Especially Anise and Jada) Rooms were lovely and just overall had an amazing time
The room porch overlooking the ocean! It is an especially beautiful location.
Lovely staff; particularly Bri, Mari, Arista, and Julia.
Clean comfortable room with balcony overlooking beautiful beach. Amazing water colors. Sound views from hotel also excellent. Very nice staff.
