Overview
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about Viking Hill Oceanfront Hostel & Resort? It’s this interesting mix of backpacker vibes and resort-style amenities that somehow just works. I mean, the name says it all — it’s part hostel, part resort, and honestly, that combination creates something pretty unique in Nassau. The three-star rating might seem modest, but don’t let that fool you into thinking this place doesn’t deliver where it counts.
Location & Setting
The oceanfront location on West Bay Street is actually spectacular — you’re right there with the water practically at your doorstep. What I love about this spot is that you get those gorgeous Caribbean views without being stuck in the super touristy Cable Beach area. You can walk to the main attractions easily enough, but there’s this more relaxed, authentic feel to the neighborhood. Couples seem to really get this place (the feedback backs that up), and I can see why — there’s something romantic about watching the sunset from here without fighting crowds.
The Accommodations
Here’s where things get interesting — the room options range from typical hostel-style bunks to more private resort-type accommodations. I stayed in one of the private rooms, and while it wasn’t fancy, it was clean and comfortable with a decent view. The hostel rooms are perfect if you’re traveling on a budget but still want that oceanfront experience. What surprised me was how well-maintained everything felt — you know how some hostels can be a bit rough around the edges, but this place keeps things tidy.
Amenities & Atmosphere
The communal areas are where this place really shines. There’s a great outdoor space where people naturally gather — backpackers mixing with couples, everyone sharing travel stories and sunset beers. The restaurant serves decent local food, nothing groundbreaking but solid Bahamian dishes that hit the spot after a day in the sun. I actually spent most of my evenings just hanging out in the common areas because the atmosphere was so relaxed and friendly. The staff knows the area well too, so they’re good for recommendations on local spots that aren’t in every guidebook.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea — if you need pristine accommodations or complete privacy, you’ll want to look elsewhere. But if you’re after that authentic Caribbean experience with a social atmosphere and unbeatable ocean access, Viking Hill really delivers. The recent guests have been rating the location highly, and I totally get why. You’re getting prime oceanfront real estate at hostel prices, plus the chance to meet fellow travelers from all over. It’s one of those places where the imperfections somehow add to the charm rather than detract from it.

Guest Reviews
It is close to the water, view fromt the property is amazing!!! Next to the hostel is a nice restaurant with delicious food and drinks. On the street you can catch a bus to the Downtown Nassau (N10 or 12 for 1.50$). There is a samll kitchen with fridge, microwave, electric cooker so you can prepare your own meals.
Close to beach, pictures are accurate representation. Staff was responsive.
There wasn't any breakfast the location was neutral.
Hostel beds are really comfortable and have nice privacy screens. Location from airport is unbeatable for short stop over.
My friend and I really liked the room we stayed in. It had a kitchen (though a few essential items could be added), a working shower with hot water and a comfy bed. We also enjoyed the view. Our room was facing the ocean so we could hear the sounds of the waves during the night.
The wi-fi was working really well and we had a TV on which we were able to listen to Netflix (with my personal account).
Samantha, the person on-site, was super nice as well.
Yes I liked the location on the beach
Good value for money. Great location very close to lovely beaches and a good restaurant within walking distance. The owner was lovely.
I like it was quiet but air was hot at night a little to faraway from center
property is clean and has a nice pool. beach is 50m away.
The housekeeping staff deserves special mention. They kept my room spotless throughout my stay, providing a fresh and welcoming environment to return to each day. Their dedication to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and comfort is commendable.
