Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Butterfly Cottage at Viking Hill – Love Beach, I’ll be honest — it’s not what you’d expect from the name. This three-star spot sits quietly along West Bay Street, and while it might sound like some fairy-tale hideaway, it’s actually a pretty straightforward place that gets the basics right. The cottage-style building has this laid-back Bahamian vibe that immediately puts you at ease, and you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to escape the usual resort crowds in Nassau.
Location That Actually Works
Here’s the thing about the location — recent guests rated it 8.2, and I can see why. You’re close enough to Cable Beach that you can walk there without breaking a sweat, but far enough from the main tourist strip that you won’t hear cruise ship passengers partying until 3 AM. Love Beach itself is this gorgeous stretch of sand that locals actually use, which means you get a more authentic Bahamas experience. The free parking on site is honestly a godsend because finding a spot anywhere near the beaches in Nassau can be a real headache.
The Room Experience
My room was simple but clean — think beach cottage meets practical accommodation rather than Instagram-worthy comfort. The air conditioning worked well (crucial in the Bahamas), and I appreciated having a small kitchenette area where I could store drinks and snacks from the local market. The bathroom was compact but functional, and honestly, when you’re spending most of your time on the beach anyway, you don’t need much more than a comfortable bed and a good shower.
What Makes It Special
The real charm of this place comes from its unpretentious approach to island hospitality. The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you have what you need, without that forced cheerfulness you sometimes get at bigger resorts. I mean, they helped me figure out the best times to hit Love Beach when it wasn’t crowded, and even gave me directions to a local fish fry that turned out to be amazing. It’s these little touches that make the difference when you’re trying to experience Nassau like someone who actually lives there.
Why Couples Keep Coming Back
I can definitely see why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something romantic about the quieter setting without being completely isolated. You can walk hand-in-hand down Love Beach at sunset, then grab dinner at one of the local spots nearby without dealing with resort crowds or inflated prices. The cottage atmosphere feels more intimate than a typical hotel, and the fact that you have your own space with that kitchenette means you can have morning coffee together without rushing to a crowded breakfast buffet. For the price point, it’s actually a pretty solid choice if you want a genuine Bahamian experience without the tourist trap feel.

Guest Reviews
Great location. Enjoyed all aspects of facility. Loved being at the beach.
Swimming pool is very top! good property. great host almost available 24/7
We were able to choose between two cottages which was nice. The apartment was pretty spacious and the whole place is close to the beach.
the a/c was great. nice beach across the street. Location was ok because we rented a car. Not the size we ask for but it had nothing to do with our stay. Water stop working twice while we were showering. something kept crying outside our door. something kept running on top of the building in the middle of the night and was scratching the roof, that was scary. But other than that it was very nice. The host was very friendly
Cornelia was really nice and got out of her way to help us when we needed.
Good room size.
Breakfast??? Location was good
Location is far from downtown BUT quiet, near bus stop and beach, we found it convenient.
In a quiet area near the airport. The room we had was large and comfortable
The room was nicely decorated
Viking Hill is an absolutely amazing place. I took my husband there and he was absolutely blown away when we walked through the doors of our room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They ensured we were comfortable and they explained everything we needed to know about the Bahamas. The place was clean and also included a pool, which was also well kept. Right across the street is one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Anytime I come to the Bahamas., this is where I will stay. Our host Cornelia is the best ever. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one.
